I started my commercial flying career as an agricultural pilot. I think that the first day I learned more than I had in all my previous training. Since then I have logged thousands of hours in crop spraying work. Currently I am director of operations and chief pilot for MFH Helicopters, and in this role I spend a few weeks each year in bracken control and heather seeding work with them on upland areas and grouse moors. This is done using a neat rig attached to the R22.
I run several short courses throughout the year giving introductory training in crop spraying techniques. Several of my previous PPL students have come on these courses and found it a different way to gain low-level flying skills. Crop spraying requires precision flying in sometimes challenging conditions and the feedback from all the students is that they gained increased confidence and ability from the instruction. Contact me for the details of the next course.
